First Impression: No More Heroes

First off I would like to say still not as bad as army of two, however not that much better.  No More Heroes is a Wii game that emulates the GTA series, but adds a twist to their game.  In stead of robbing, and killing random people, No More Heroes tells a tale of a gamer Travis Touchdown (wtf kind of name is that?)  Who gets challenged to fight some one and it turns out to be the 11th top assassin in the U.A.A (united assassins association) the game starts off in a Tony Montana mansion rip off where you fight some old guy with a massive sward.  When you kill him you become number 10 in the U.A.A

I only played through the first and second assassin missions.  I want to complete this, because I believe there is an ending worth checking out. The hard part is getting by the repetitiveness of the game. The cursing and blood levels are off the chart (you chop heads and bodies in half with your fake light saber George Lucas is going to be pissed) and the use of the word f**k almost kills the use of the word entirely. Aside from the violence and the cursing there is a game to play here. In the game you are to gather a ridiculous amount of money to fight the next challenger in the rankings.  You do this by running odd jobs such as collecting coconuts (????) and mowing lawns (????) as well as mild assassin missions which I still did not understand.  For example the first one was for you to kill an owner of a pizza joint.  When I got to the site (I don’t know how the motorbike you get was so bad I hit the walls and fell off more than I cared to do) there were a ton of guys which I fought by hitting a single button many times and then out of the blue the leader died and I won.  And let’s not forget the bad camera angles as well as the button mashing system they came up with.  This game was not worth the $50 I paid for but since there are no new games to play till GTA4 comes out it will due. (Wait that is this Tuesday F**k it this game is dead to me lol)  I will finish this game some time but now I would rather play something else till Tuesday.

And finally you pet your cat for what reason? Those who have played the game tell me if you know the significances of this in relation to the game.

First impressions score 4/10 (sorry just not that good)

  1. The graphics are also crappy and are very blocky. And yes, they shamelessly rip off a lightsaber, lol!

  2. Seems like you went into it either expecting something else or wanting it to suck. I adored NMH, needless to say. Though i understand, since Suda 51 doesn’t really make games for geeks as yourselves. This game is great not for the gameplay, but for the adventure and the way that’s presented. Although, i found the fighting to be spectacularly fun.

This game requires a specific frame of mind when getting into it. If you’re not there already, then it’s gonna go over your head. It’s mostly an interactive Quentin Tarantino film. Not that i’m a film guru, but that seemed to be his intention. All his games take a unique cinematic approach.

But you are really unfit to be reviewing anything. Is that supposed to be a summary up there? And what’s that half page-long run-on sentence under it? Are you seriously factoring in the relationship of the cat to your final “score”? If you got the game just as a stop-gap between now and GTA, obviously you’re not embracing the game with an open mind. And since you’re waiting for GTA as you play this, your GTA comparisons become invalidated, as if they were ever valid.

One look at this is all it takes for someone to know that you are not worth listening to. Who the hell ever gave you the right to start a wordpress blog, anyway? A dot.com, no less. I’m calling Matt right now.

  3. Yes! Finally you’ve pissed off someone enough to leave a comment! I’m proud of you, DrizztvsHunter, lol!

As far as what Rollin says… First, there’s no need to insult Quentin Tarantino by comparing his badass movies to this… ok… but underpar… game. Second, our “reviews” (if you really want to call them that) are based on our opinions and first-hand consumer experience with these games and nothing more. We’re not claiming to have the be-all, end-all reviews for these games. What we are offering are honest, REAL opinions, from your average everyday gamer to the rest of you fellow gaming consumers—no matter how hardcore or casual you may be. If you want some honest opinions on games—that actually come from real people who really played these games without being paid to endorse it—that’s what we’re giving you. Third, the title of the article contains two key words, “First Impression”. This article was intended to serve NOT as a full review of the game, but merely as the “initial thoughts” on it from a gamer/consumer standpoint. This ain’t the New York Times, buddy. We know that! But we appreciate your comment nevertheless! Thanks for your witty retort. You belong here.

  4. Well I have one question who is Matt? lol anyway In today’s times us gamers expect a certain quality for a game. I know the Wii is no considered next gen, however the games are priced so. When a game is put on display it should cater to graphics, story, and control before cat petting. If you knew anything about me (which you don’t) I am an old school gamer and spend the majority of my time on one game at a time. I take in the environment as well as attention to detail. I rated this game the way I did because I was not impressed with a 50 dollar game. I have never played games from the Suda 51 before this nor do I know its mission statement with making games so that info which you presented means nothing to me. And the free press act allows me to write on what ever opinion I care to share. Like my partner in crime stated the review was first impression. We do these things because we have real jobs that are not funded by video games (which means we buy each game when we get the money) so our reviews will come late and quick. We at the geeks n games podcast appreciate your feedback and hopes that you will continue to visit the site and talk bad about our writings because any feed back is better that no feed back. You are welcome to visit anytime you wish.
